    Page and widget overview

The Casewhere page-and-widget system helps solution developers create and manage content efficiently. It gives you full control over layout design — how a page looks and how it responds across different devices. Pages act as containers, while widgets handle how data is presented and how end-users interact with it through Casewhere workflows.

    Reusability

The system is designed to maximize reusability. A page can be linked to multiple worker sites, and a widget can be embedded in multiple pages. Widgets do not load or update data directly — they act as gateways to the underlying data by pulling from data sources and delegating processing to workflows. Because data sources and workflows can be shared among widgets, reusability extends across the entire solution.

    Security

Both pages and widgets are protected by access rules. You can control who accesses which pages, which widgets are visible, and how widgets filter data based on user privileges. You can also control which workflows a user is allowed to trigger from a widget. For example, in the book store tutorial, you could configure that children cannot browse adult books, or only the store owner can add new books.
